Best of MRV 2022

2022 was a year of the new and the old, perhaps as things always are. The Valley Reporter did a great “year in review” article highlighting stories that reflect the character of the Mad River Valley: land conservation, local families growing and shrinking, school happenings, local sports team successes, and changes in local and state government.

The MRV is known for its gorgeous nature and caring community. Standing back to appreciate it all is an exercise worth doing. Here are some of my 2022 MRV highlights:

  • Enjoying an evening picnic and bluegrass performance on the outdoor stage at Knoll Farm

  • Navigating the new uphill skinning route at Mount Ellen with friends

  • Celebrating my nieces’ graduation from the Warren Elementary school

  • Singing at a candlelight service at the Waitsfield Church

And here are some of Sharon’s highlights:

  • Eating a freshly made strawberry rhubarb popsicle while soaking up the sun on a bench outside the Von Trapp Farm Store, with chickens for company and a view of the cows grazing in the pasture across the road.

  • Biking along the Common Road.

  • Hiking Sunset Ledge and, farther afield, Mount Hunger, with friends.

  • Weekly flower pick-ups from the Von Trapp tulip CSA.

  • Enjoying the music, community, dog- and people-watching every week at Round Up on the River on Wednesdays and at the Farmers Market on Saturdays.

  • Skiing Jester from the top when the snow is good.

2022 is also the year that our company, Mad River Romance, started publishing a website and writing novels. Sharon and I are so thankful for your encouragement as we find our way. From nothing, something came. Thank you all.
