Are we there yet?
In some parts of New England, it’s already Spring. Daffodils are blooming in the front yard, maybe even tulips. Forsythia yellow flowers are bright in the sun. But, here… it snowed a foot last week, and maybe 8 inches at elevation yesterday. Mother Nature is taking her time.
But, there are signs. Here are ten ways to tell it’s Spring in the Mad River Valley.
It’s light until 7 p.m. (instead of 4 p.m.)
Kids get off the school bus wearing shorts (it is still about 45 degrees outside, but they are hardy).
You store your cross-country skis, but you can still ski (yup, LOTS of snow left) alpine downhill or skin uphill.
You can finally drive home or visit friends on Tucker Hill or Center Fayston Roads without worrying you will need a tow truck to get out of the mud.
You think about getting your car washed since mud season is (mostly) done.
Taking the snow tires off the car seems safe.
Von Trapp tulips are available and gorgeous.
You notice at least two bikers per day on Route 100, huffing and puffing back into shape.
You eat your first creemee of the season at the VG.
And, the earthy aroma of manure greets your nose before each major rainstorm.
