Contemporary Artists in a Modern Gallery
When you visit the Bundy Modern Art Gallery & Sculpture Park, the experience begins well before you push open the doors to the gallery.
You arrive by a long, winding drive on a dirt road overhung with branches. The trees, in full summer leaf, block out much of the daylight and give the sensation of driving through a tunnel. But then, voila, there’s a break in the overgrowth, and you find yourself in an open expanse of magnificent grounds—the gracefully undulating meadow of mowed grass serving as a frame for the free-form pond, and the stunning Modernist home reflected in it.
The two-story brick and glass Modernist structure was built in 1962 by Harlow Carpenter, a noted sculptor of his time, and is very much in the Bauhaus style. Windows soar to the 23’ ceiling and flood the massive gallery with light. It’s a dream space for any artist to show their work, and the three artists currently exhibiting use it to full advantage—presenting massive pieces imbued with so much color and playful energy that they seem to vibrate off the walls.
Each summer, the Bundy presents a thoughtfully curated show featuring select artists. This year’s exhibit, titled Nor’easter, showcases the work of Terry Ekasala, Rick Harlow, and Craig Stockwell. Nor’easter runs through September 3rd and is free and open for viewing Saturdays 12-5:00 pm or by appointment.
