New to the Valley

Most changes in the Mad River Valley are quiet triumphs: a child taking her first jump off the Waitsfield covered bridge, the hatching of a new chick, the perfectly ripe tomato on your vine.

But sometimes, there are changes we all get to share: the Canteen Creemee introduces a new flavor, Lawsons releases a new brew, the Green Closet has new ‘finds.’

In this blog post and others to follow, we highlight bigger changes happening in the MRV, such as the opening of new stores and restaurants.

Some new (or newish) additions to the Valley include:

  • Neil Farm’s Feed Lot (link to Valley Reporter article) epitomizes local. Go enjoy the burgers and fries at this family run, outdoor, farm-to-food truck experience. Last time we went, we saw cows, reveled in a spectacular sunset, and ran into several people we knew while enjoying a perfectly cooked cheeseburger and decadent fries. My son ate there a few days ago and raved about the new pulled pork. It’s a delicious and hyper-local stop, open Thursday-Saturday.

  • Don’t feel like cooking? Order from the superstar chefs at Kitchen-ette–a take-out commercial kitchen in Waitsfield with big ideas and even bigger flavor. Most meals come “oven ready” and, let’s be honest, are probably better than you can cook yourself. Recent favorites include herb-crusted cod oreganata and lasagna bolognese. Pair with a salad of your own making of order one from Kitchen-ette and you have a feast fit for you and your guests. Pick up is on Fridays or Saturdays.

  • And, for new shopping, try Addison West, recently opened in the former “The Store” location on 5275 Main Street in Waitsfield. It’s wonderful to have a vibrant vendor fill up the old space. The upstairs area is newly opened, with comfy furniture available to try before you buy. The “pit” is full of books, games, and gifts. And the kitchen and food area has everything from new pans to cocktail napkins.
