To Market We Go
There is a fabulous Farmers Market in Waitsfield center every Saturday morning, from mid-May to early October, in the middle of the town green. You’ll find local vendors who carry fresh bread, pastries, cheeses, liquors, grass-fed beef, and vegetables and flowers picked from the farm that morning. Artisanal craftspeople purvey everything from handmade furniture and cutting boards to skirts and dog collars, glasswork, photographs, and paintings. And, of course, there’s food to enjoy at the picnic tables and coffee to quaff.
Lots of rural towns have authentic Farmers Markets. And their list of offerings would be pretty similar. But somehow, the Waitsfield Farmers Market is special. Is it the live music every week? The number of dogs (well-behaved, on leashes)? The locals buying veggies mingling with the tourists buying souvenirs and snacks? The green grass surrounded by the high hills?
If you are visiting and find yourself in the Mad River Valley on a Saturday, stop by to discover for yourself what makes this particular Farmers Market so special.
