Rendezvous at the River

Ready for summer in the Valley? Come on down to Round up on the River.

It’s a community event. A place to catch up with friends, see how the kids have grown or where they are living now, share the local updates, and enjoy food, drink, music, and nature all at once. It’s pretty special.

Every Wednesday evening in the summer, food trucks, music, and people fill the little parking lot behind The Sweet Spot in Waitsfield. The soundscape includes kids shrieking as they jump off the covered bridge into the always-cool river water and talented musicians drumming or finger-picking under the little white tent.

Adults queue for food and drink. Our family favorites include the dumpling truck (Ting Ting Dumplings–aka Michael’s Good to Go), the Japanese onigiri, from Miso toh Kome and the Lawson’s beer pull from The Sweet Spot. The music changes every week, as do the food trucks, so you never know what’s for dinner–and that’s part of the fun.

Warning: the parking can be tricky, the lines can be long, and the seating area can get dusty, but the happiness that pervades the scene is palpable. And who minds standing in line when friends interrupt with hugs?

So, whether you are a local friend, just moved to the area, just moved back to the area, or are a visitor looking for new friends, come on down to the river on Wednesday summer evenings.

(And a resounding shout of thanks to the owners of Sweet Spot for organizing the event!)
