Donuts, is there nothing they can’t do*
There is a new treat maker in town — Kyle White of Mad River Donuts. His donuts are deliciously decadent (full disclosure, I may have sampled more than one), made with a yeast base to make them extraordinarily light and fluffy.
On the morning I visited, Kyle’s offerings included Boston Cream, and glazes of chocolate, maple, raspberry, and matcha (ah, the hardships of this job). My favorite is the Boston Cream, with a delectable inner cream.
Kyle has been in food service since his teenage years at Pizza Hut and Subway, and turned professional after graduating from the famous Johnson & Wales culinary school. As he says, “I've lived in the Mad River Valley since 2019 and felt like it could use more donuts. While I do love the apple cider donuts and maple donuts, they are found everywhere. It's hard to find a plain glazed or raspberry frosted! I'm aiming to change that. I use local Vermont ingredients where I can and also keep the recipes as simple as I can.”
You can find his donuts at the Mad River Exchange on Route 100 (the former Alpino Vino building), on Thursday through Sunday mornings until noon or until they sell out. At the moment, that’s happening by late morning. You can also order online. Or find them at the KS Coffee truck outside of Valley Meade (corner of 100 and 17) on Thursdays and Saturdays.
