…And I Say Goodbye

The sad news in the Valley this month is the closing of the Big Picture Theater and Cafe. As reported in depth by the Valley Reporter, the venue will close in early November after nearly 20 years of operation by the current owners.

This is a loss for the whole town. Memories of the space and the thoughtful staff are flooding in: the tofu satay in the restaurant, the bourbon cocktails at the bar, the decadent coconut cake. My husband is already missing the donut bread pudding. We’ve shared movie nights: the Barbie movie where we dressed in pink, Pixar movies that we could enjoy as a family, and James Bond action extravaganzas that demand a big screen. And, of course, the annual Mountain Film Festival - even when we had to sit outside because of Covid!

The owners have declared an interest to change the business model and continue the venue in some new type of community arrangement. Let’s hope a path forward will established soon.

In the meantime, I’d like to thank the owners and staff at Big Pic for years of great food and memories. We will miss you!
